Water UK has responded to the publication of the Government's Environment Plan.

CCWater's latest complaints report reveals an all-time low in the number of written complaints made to water companies, after a significant fall in unwanted contacts by water customers since 2010.

From today (1st April 2017), up to 1.2 million businesses and other non-household customers in England are now able to choose their supplier of water and wastewater retail services. This marks the extension of retail competition in the non-household water supply market to England, following its earlier introduction in Scotland.

Water customers in England and Wales can now go to an independent adjudicator if their complaint has not been resolved by their water company and after intervention from the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater).

Water UK has sent a submission to the Labour Party on their ‘Democratic Public Ownership’ consultation. The submission also examines the Labour Party’s ‘Clear Water’ proposals for nationalising the water and sewerage industry in England. Our view is that, if implemented, the proposals could seriously damage the provision and quality of water and sewerage services in England.

The chair of an influential House of Commons committee has spoken out over suggestions that the water industry in England should be taken over by the government.
