Water UK and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) have agreed a protocol regarding water infrastructure in contaminated land.

In November 2017, Ofwat published a new “Code” which amended the regulatory regime for all water companies which operate wholly or mainly in England.

In July Water UK began quarterly reporting of water company performance against regulatory and industry targets in relation to services provided to developers. The aim of this work is to drive up companies’ performance in the provision of these services. This quantitative approach is likely to be complemented in the near future with customer satisfaction measuring.

The water industry is continuing to play its part in the delivery of new homes in the UK by maintaining its high standards of services to developers. Levels of service performance were at 98% for water supply and 99% for sewerage for July to September 2016.

The UK has over 600 designated bathing waters, put in place under the EU Bathing Waters Directive. While people may swim in many locations, designated bathing waters are regularly tested throughout the bathing water season each year.
